ASSIGNMENT
In this assignment, you will propose and prototype a Mixed Reality (MR) application.
Mixed Reality seamlessly blends elements of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), presenting unique challenges and opportunities. Your creative freedom is paramount here—utilize any tool or combination of tools to effectively communicate and prototype your MR concepts.
Objective
The primary objective of this assignment is to challenge you to propose and prototype a Mixed Reality (MR) application, leveraging the convergence of virtual and augmented elements. This task encourages you to think beyond traditional boundaries, utilizing any necessary tools to effectively communicate your MR concepts and showcase a seamless integration of digital and physical worlds.
Task
Define the MR Experience:
Conceptualize a MR application by considering how virtual and augmented elements can interact. Define the purpose, user interactions, and the unique value proposition of your experience.
GOAL is to recreate Unity MR Sample Scene interactions using my own assets and elements from the deprecated MRTK, following this week's CS tutorial content.
STRETCH GOAL is to do it with Unity 6 and the latest MRTK.
This week has been too hectic with a jam deadline and there hasn't been a lot of creativity or anxiety to spare. I'm looking forward to just tweaking some existing assets and exploring some pre-designed and pre-coded interaction ideas.
- size / proportion of digital assets in MR space
- comfort of the user in interacting
TASK
User Interactions in MR:
Consider interactive elements within your MR experience, focusing on how users will engage with both virtual and physical components. Ensure a natural and intuitive interaction model that aligns with MR design principles.
I'm going to replace out the existing assets with my own and see just how badly everything can break.
Task
Select Prototyping Tools:
Choose the tools that best suit your vision for communicating MR concepts. You may opt for a combination of VR/AR prototyping tools, 3D design software, or any other applications that facilitate your approach. You can even use a pen and paper prototype, what matters is that you communicate your idea.
My protoype has been so kindly already made by many brave generations of Unity UX/UI employees.
Task
Visual and Spatial Integration:
Pay special attention to the visual and spatial integration of digital content within the physical environment. Showcase how your MR application enhances the user's perception and interaction with the real world.
WIP
Enthusiastic error logging on all fronts.
Build-along with a recorded content tutorial. Build-time chaos.
Build-along with the in-class tutorial. Everything works perfectly until it's time to build.
I thought I broke it by messing around in my scene, but the clean healthy sample scene won't build either. Too many insoluble errors at too early a stage: I'm going to go straight to the Unity 6 and the new MRTK and use the same process with hopefully upgraded results.
Playtesting
VIDEO coming soon...if I can build to headset :(
Refinement:
You know I've got big plans, but we're still working through Phase 1 here, y'all.
